Focus Groups and Mini Groups

Focus Groups and Mini Groups

Focus groups are a staple of modern day research. Traditionally, focus groups are held in a focus group facility, using a professional moderator, where observers can watch the focus group from behind a one way mirror. MMR sometimes conducts less formal focus groups outside the focus group facility, in the real world locations where customers live and work.  While traditional focus groups have the advantage a professional moderator as well as the ability to easily observe and record, less formal focus groups can be less expensive, more candid, and easier to reach participants.

MMR also often uses mini groups, such as dyads (2 participants and a moderator) and triads (3 participants and a moderator).  These mini groups are particularly useful for complex or sensitive topics, because they allow each participant additional time to talk during the group.
